LAHH Partnership with Loyola Marymount

“The Los Angeles Habilitation House is an ideal Community Partner for Loyola Marymount University. Our partnership with LAHH has provided our students with concrete learning opportunities and a deeper understanding of the needs of their clients, individuals with disabilities, at Los Angeles Habilitation House. Through this understanding and the agency's intentional guidance, the LMU students are able to utilize their talents to address these needs collaboratively.”

“Working as an intern for the Los Angeles Habilitation House has been great learning experience that has been truly invaluable to me. It is amazing to see an organization plant its roots into the ground and begin to grow. Few people get to experience this first hand and I feel lucky to be apart of it. I was given the task of making a splash page for the website describing the fundraising banquet coming up and was shocked at how trusting Guido and Nancy were in giving me this duty. I also designed the Invitation as well and am thrilled at the positive feedback I have received for my work. Knowing that I have contributed, even just the slightest bit, gives me so much pride and makes me feel truly apart of the organization. I believe whole-heartedly in the mission of LAHH and am convinced that this organization will flourish in the future. I am especially thankful to Guido and Nancy for listening to my ideas and making me feel apart of a team. They are great motivators and make every member feel like an important and valuable asset to the organization. This is the way an organization should be run! “

“For my management class we were asked to work for a non-profit organization in which we were to analyze the management of the organization and how it is run. Then we were asked to present our findings in a presentation to the entire class using the concepts we learned throughout the entire course. I knew that it would be easy to apply the concepts from management as they are universal and can be applied to any organization. But I never anticipated how much I would learn from the two individuals whom I would be working for during this semester. They are truly not only great bosses, setting the standard very high for my expectations from my future employers and managers, but great people with a passion for helping others. I was more than delighted to be involved with such an amazing, new organization.

Just a brief talk with either one of the two co-founders and you will see the caring and understanding that I experienced as they helped me through my work, never demanding too much, as they always understood that we were all full-time students, but never taking it too easy on us. We always had a challenge. Working with them I was exposed to things I had never done before, even things as simple as calling organizations or researching other non-profit organizations in which we could market to for our fundraiser. They truly nurtured us from the beginning, always wanting our input and opinions, which I was a little surprised by since I am merely a sophomore in college with little experience planning any kind of fundraiser. But it was more than appreciated and the experience helped each one of us grow, as they were constantly concerned with making sure that we were learning from this entire experience. I have no doubt that they will put on a spectacular fundraiser this fall, and I am so proud to be able to say I was a part of it and look forward to experiencing the tangible results of our hard work at the fundraiser this fall. Thanks for a truly amazing experience and knowledge that I will be able to take with me for use at future jobs. And I say a big thank you from the entire community for taking the initiative, as you bring those individuals with disabilities into the community to participate as fully active members; fulfilling each and every one of our duties we have as community members to make it a better place for all its inhabitants.”

“My experience of working with you during the past weeks have been most enjoyable. Having never been involved in this type of work in my previous interaction with non-profit organizations, I was both excited and anxious to know how I would be of service to you. However, as I spent more and more time working with you, my purpose at LAHH became very clear and I gained knowledge and experience due to this learning process. I especially value the supportive encouragement that you showed us as you guided us in each of our tasks. It has been a wonderful experience and I am most grateful for the opportunity that you have blessed me with in allowing me to work with you in building LAHH.”
